According to the Paris Star (Ontario, CA), local police advise residents to lock their cars.
They may also want to beef up security of their vehicle by getting a standard steering wheel lock
to prevent car thefts.
“A large amount of our thefts under $5,000 can be attributed to people losing valuables from vehicles,”
said Media Relations Officer Larry Plummer. “It seems to be a crime of opportunity for people, but there is no real pattern indicating that it is the same people committing these crimes,” replied Plummer when asked by the Star if there was a connection between the incidents. Plummer also revealed there doesn’t seem to be a particular month that is worse than others, but could say most of the incidents were reported in residential areas and that the thefts occurred at night.
